On 5th November 2008, twelve Year 5 children took part in an athletics festival held at Waseley Hills High School. There were children from other primary schools in Worcestershire at the festival. They completed a range of activities which required them to use their athletics skills. Hurdling, javelin throwing, shot putting, running and long jumping were all included in the festival.
The children represented the school tremendously! They all showed great sportsmanship and were polite and kind to the other children and members of staff. They performed very well and each child collected points for their houses. The final scores revealed that Ash were victorious, scoring the most points overall.
Oak, Elm and Beech followed closely.
Miss Harrison and Mrs Penfold were very proud of their athletes. Well done to everyone who participated!
On Friday 17th October, Holywell School Choir took part in the Primrose Proms concert at the Spadesbourne Centre in Bromsgrove. The concert began at 7.30pm and did not finish until 10.45pm. The children were exhausted!
Mrs Goddard and Miss Davies were immensely proud of all the children who represented the school so well. We are now looking forward to our next appearances in the community; at the Beacon Centre on Friday 28th November for the Christmas Fayre, and again on Saturday 6th December for the Old folks Christmas Party.
Rock on Holywell !

A group of eight boys did the school proud recently at the North Worcestershire Area ESFA 7-a-side football tournament. The boys entered the tournament with high hopes and performed excellently, eventually winning the competition.
After a goal-less draw in the opening game against Westacre, the team turned on the style in their second game with a 5-3 victory, inspired by goals from Callum Halpin, Matthew Edge and Cohen Harford. They followed this up with a 2-0 win against well-fancied tournament hosts Aston Fields Middle School, which ensured that Holywell topped their group and progressed to the final.
We were once again paired with Aston Fields in the final and the team saved their best performance for this match, defeating a very strong Aston Fields side 3-1. Their attitude and sportsmanship throughout was excellent and they thoroughly deserved to be crowned champions. The team are pictured with their medals and captain Cohen Harford has the trophy in his hands.
Holywell will now compete in the next stage of the competition later this year, let's hope the success continues. Many thanks to Aston Fields for hosting this event and providing referees, and to Kidderminster Harriers for organising the event and providing equipment.

In October, Holywell hosted a vibrant Dance Festival, joined by children from Lickey Hills and Beaconside Primary Schools.
Children from Holywell's own Dance Club performed 'Thriller' .
Children from years 3 and 4 had the opportunity to make up their own dances, helped by Dance Club members from years 5 and 6.
In the second part of the Festival we were joined by year 7 pupils from Waseley Hills High School, who were in Holywell's Belly Dancing troupe last year.
All the children learned some new belly dancing moves and had the chance to dress up in belly dancing scarves.
Everyone had fun and enjoyed a really different morning. |

Year 5 have been investigating the work of the significant children's author, Jacqueline Wilson.
We have researched in groups to learn more, and tried to write in her style.
We went on a 'setting' walk to get some inspiration.
