The children in Foundation Stage enjoyed a day's visit to the West Midlands Safari Park. Everyone had a wonderful time and we were able to see so many different animals.
This visit was a starting point for further topic activities about animals, jungle habitats and endangered species. Can you name the animals we saw? Hover your mouse over the pictures to find the answers.

23 members of Year 6 have been trained to be Play Leaders. They have a very special job in the playgrounds; they have been teaching younger children new games. So far, it has been a great success. The children have enjoyed playing games such as Honey Pot, Sunday Run and Stuck in the Mud. They use different sorts of equipment in the playground and you can spot them by looking out for their Play Leader hats.
Play Leaders are responsible, kind, helpful and very good listeners. Keep up the good work!

Year 3 have been learning all about the lives of children during the Victorian period (1837-1901).
At the end of break they were surprised to hear a hand bell being rung very loudly by the Victorian teacher, Master Canewhacker. The children lined up and the boys and girls entered the classroom separately; the boys bowed to Mr. Canewhacker and the girls curtsied. The children wrote their names on a slate and had their hands checked for dirt. After morning assembly and prayer, the class began their lessons.
First, the class learnt the alphabet backwards, by reciting it over and over again. Molly amazed the class by being able to do this without practice! Then the children learnt the Victorian poem "The Lion and the Unicorn", which tells the story of the joining of Scotland and England under James I (James IV of Scotland).
Next was the writing lesson. The class had to copy the following proverb in copperplate-style writing:
Sixty minutes hath an hour,
use each well within your power.
Arithmetic was next and the class worked from a copy of an original 1848 school workbook. Addition, subtraction and times tables were learnt by repetition and the children were tested. One of the boys pretended to get one sum wrong, so that he could wear the dunce's hat and stand at the back of the class.
Next was drill. The Head Boy and Girl led the way and the class had great fun joining in.
After the children had marched back to the classroom, they had a scripture lesson. Master Canewhacker read the parable of the Good Samaritan. The class ended their Victorian lessons by singing the hymn "Morning Has Broken". Master Canewhacker ... >> full

Year 1 have been very busy recently; here are some Spring highlights:
Gymnastics
We have been working hard to develop our gymnastics skills. We have been climbing, jumping, flipping, travelling and balancing. Best of all though, we liked swinging on the ropes.
Fruit tasting and shopping
As part of our Design and Technology work, we went shopping to buy different fruits to make fruit salad. We walked to Rubery and looked in the shops at the different fruits we could buy. We bought lots of different fruit, including Chinese pears and dragon fruit. We put them together to make fruit salad. We decided if the fruit was juicy, sour, sweet, soft or crunchy. We all tried the dragon fruit but we didn't really like it!
Traffic Survey
In our Geography work we have been investigating the local roads. We have looked at the street furniture to see what the signs tell us. We looked at the different vehicles. We went up to the bypass to see the cars whizzing past. We then carried out a Traffic Survey. We couldn't believe how many cars we saw! We ran out of room to put them on our survey.

Year 5 have been learning about Rainforests in Geography. We had a visitor to tell us loads of interesting things about the animals that might live there. It was great to get so close to some animals we've never seen before.
Art Club painted a Rainforest banner, we are really proud of how it turned out!
5ET gave an assembly to parents about the Rainforests. We loved showing the school the things we have learnt.

On 30th April, Year 6 visited Tamworth Castle as part of their History topic; Britain Since 1930.They took part in two workshops: role play as an evacuee and artefact handling. They were also able to explore the castle itself and to find out about local history in Tamworth. Children were particularly fascinated with the haunting of the castle by the Black Lady!
Life as an evacuee:
Children took on the role of evacuees and met Billeting Officer Miss Johnson, who put them through their paces. Activities included using a stirrup pump, building a shelter, deciding what to take into the Anderson shelter, operating the air raid siren and completing their own identity cards which they must have with them at all times. Children also took part in a drill; some found it easier than others!
Artefact handling:
Children enjoyed investigating many different artefacts in order to decide who they belonged to. Working in groups, they discovered that they were the belongings of a housewife, a Captain in the Army, a young girl who had been evacuated during the War, a Land Army girl and an Aid Raid Protection Warden.
Children thoroughly enjoyed the day and returned to school with many interesting facts.
