All the children in Year 1 are settling in well. They have learnt lots of new routines. They have made new friends on the Key Stage One playground and have played with the Key Stage Two Playleaders at lunchtimes.
They have been finding out about themselves, making, painting, building, reading, writing, working with numbers, training with West Bromwich Albion, and writing letters and walking to the postbox to post them.
They have made lots of new friends and discovered the I.T. Suite. They are learning how to log on and shut down, use paint programs and explore the Number and Word Shark software.
Lots of children enjoy Football Club after school on Mondays.

Visit to Tillington Farm September 2009
The Eco-Committee went to Tillington Farm, Herefordshire, in September. This fabulous trip was funded by the Co-operative supermarket in Rubery.
We had a great time! Firstly, we made apple and raisin scones.
Next, we tasted different varieties of apples grown on the farm. Discovery was our favourite, and it was pink inside - what a surprise!
Finally, we squeezed apples picked that morning, to make our own apple juice, which was absolutely delicious.
We returned to school clutching goody bags, exhausted, but we had had loads of fun. Ruth at the farm told us that our school should be proud- we were fantastic representatives of Holywell.
October 2009 Eco Report
Rupert Brakespeare gave everyone from Reception to Year 6 a fantastic assembly! The theme was "Enough for All for Ever". He gave us lots to think about in our classes, and even taught us a song about caring for the world in Brazilian!
The Eco-Committee and the Year 6 School Councillors spent the day with Rupert. We talked about the Five W's :
-
WALKING
-
WATTAGE
-
WASTE
-
WATER
-
WORLD WIDE AWARENESS
As a school, we are discussing which of these to focus on as a school-wide project.
We will meet up with pupils from Waseley Hills High School, Lickey Hills Primary School and Beaconside Primary School to hear their views of the Five W's in November- we'll keep you posted!

At the Seaside with Year 2
As part of their history topic on "Seaside holidays in the past", year two took part in a Seaside Day. We enjoyed seaside activities both old and new.
During the day, the children watched an authentic Punch and Judy Show, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
The children had the opportunity to see how the puppets worked.
Roald Dahl Stories
As part of their Literacy work, year two have spent lots of time studying the author Roald Dahl and his books. The children have read "The Magic Finger", "The Enormous Crocodile", "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", and many more.
The children had a very special visit one afternoon, whilst studying Roald Dahl's "The Twits".
Mr. Twit came knocking at the door. He told the children all about his life and the cruel tricks Mrs Twit plays on him. The children also had the opportunity to ask Mr. Twit any questions that they had.
On October 1st, Holywell's Cross Country teams competed in the year 5 and 6 Road Relays at Sanders Park, against three other schools in the Bromsgrove District. They all performed superbly and Mrs Penfold was very proud of them.
Cross Country Team Photo:
For some children, this was their first race! The year 5 boys and year 6 girls won their relay race, with Cieran Halpin leading his team from the first leg. Romy Norgrove, Ella Corfield, Maria Coll and Natasha Cetti were the winning girls team and Cieran Halpin, Joel Hayden Jones and Samuel Yates were the winning year 5 team. Bailey Beddows led his team on the first leg and helped the year 6 boys to finish in second position overall. The year 5 girls finished third - fantastic!
