A group of eight boys did the school proud recently at the North Worcestershire Area ESFA 7-a-side football tournament. The boys entered the tournament with high hopes and performed excellently, eventually winning the competition.
After a goal-less draw in the opening game against Westacre, the team turned on the style in their second game with a 5-3 victory, inspired by goals from Callum Halpin, Matthew Edge and Cohen Harford. They followed this up with a 2-0 win against well-fancied tournament hosts Aston Fields Middle School, which ensured that Holywell topped their group and progressed to the final.
We were once again paired with Aston Fields in the final and the team saved their best performance for this match, defeating a very strong Aston Fields side 3-1. Their attitude and sportsmanship throughout was excellent and they thoroughly deserved to be crowned champions. The team are pictured with their medals and captain Cohen Harford has the trophy in his hands.
Holywell will now compete in the next stage of the competition later this year, let's hope the success continues. Many thanks to Aston Fields for hosting this event and providing referees, and to Kidderminster Harriers for organising the event and providing equipment.
