At the Seaside with Year 2

As part of their history topic on "Seaside holidays in the past", year two took part in a Seaside Day. We enjoyed seaside activities both old and new.

Punch & Judy Show

During the day, the children watched an authentic Punch and Judy Show, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.

Next show at 2pm

The children had the opportunity to see how the puppets worked.

Watch out for the crocodile!

Roald Dahl Stories

As part of their Literacy work, year two have spent lots of time studying the author Roald Dahl and his books. The children have read "The Magic Finger", "The Enormous Crocodile", "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", and many more.

The children had a very special visit one afternoon, whilst studying Roald Dahl's "The Twits".

Who is this? It's Mr. Twit!

Mr. Twit came knocking at the door. He told the children all about his life and the cruel tricks Mrs Twit plays on him. The children also had the opportunity to ask Mr. Twit any questions that they had.

This term in Science lessons, year 2 have been learning about Materials.

We have sorted materials into types; metal, glass, wood, plastic, fabric.

Classroom display

We have described their properties; hard, soft, heavy, light, smooth, rough.

Properties of materials

We took rubbings of the different materials around the playground.

Materials in the playground

We tested materials to see if they could bend, stretch, squash or twist.

Testing Materials

We predicted how bread might change when it is put in a toaster; what did it look like, feel, smell and taste like, before and after.

Ideas for things to do at home:

How many different materials can you find at home?

Help at home with the cooking. How do materials change when heat is applied?

Make cakes and jelly!

Look on the internet or go to the library. Where do metal, glass and plastic come from?
